Archived Career Awareness Assignments

What we've done so far this semsester:

1. Created a blog.
2. Career Cruising in the Library with Mr. Frankel.
3. Biography on a successful entrepreneur of your choice.
4. Writing weekly reviews on news articles related to your career choice, using Google News to research them.
5. Selected a career.
6. Designed sample business cards.
7. Learn to use Screencast-o-matic. Upload a one-minute introduction of yourself onto your blog.
8. Write up a one-page review of an article relatd to your career choice that you find at Google News.

Mission Statement for Career Awareness

This class is dedicated to solving problems in the marketplace. Each student will master technical and sales knowledge to position himself stronger in the career of his choosing. Students will count the cost of a college education and weigh that cost against the average financial benefits to be found in his chosen career. An individual can learn on his own. College is not mandatory; it is not for everyone. The goal is to serve and add value to someone else's or your enterprise. The goal is to solve problems and to do that at a good price.

HOMEWORK

Write up a review of a popular product that you've purchased recently. If you really like the product, then your review should read like an extended advertisement. Include a picture of the product in your review. Go to Google images, copy a picture and paste it with your review on your blog. Include the price of the item, the important features--you know, those features for which buy the product in the first place. If you do not like the product--then highlight its short-comings and refer and compare it to a superior product. Make sure that your sentences "sound" like they are selling a product.

Career Awareness Assignments for the Week of May 2 to May 6, 2011

Assignments under consideration:

1. Start a discussion forum at your blog. The forum costs a monthly fee. Check out Aweber.com: $1 one-month trial; $19 per month thereafter.
2. Create blogs that follow your interests.

Periods 5, 7, & 8:
1. Watch this.
2. Read this.
3. Then write a 4-paragraph review on that article. Post your review at your blog.
4. Send a copy of your blog to me.

Finish this by week's end, Friday, May 6th.

I need to have 5, that's right 5, reviews from you by Friday, May 6. Each review must review a topic within your career choice.

Periods 1 & 3
1. Read the LA Times article on how Superman renounces his US citizenship.
2. Then write a 4-paragraph review of the article and post it at your blog.
3. Then send me a copy of your blog.
