This is a must-see video. Life before career.

Open, watch, and study this.  Identifying your career first is is putting the horse before the cart.  First, select the life that you want: where you want to live, with whom you'd like to work, what type of goals or projects would you like to be involved with.  What do you want for your life at the end of each day?  Answer these questions first, and then make nice with, be friendly to, and add value with these types of, perhaps goal-oriented, people.  A career is essentially a commitment that you make to a kind of work that you have some knowledge of and familiarity with.  It is difficult to make a career decision in the abstract without working in that field.  That point makes apprenticeships particularly valuable.  Unsure of what you want for your career?  Apprentice with someone in a particular industry.  Check it out.
