What is This Class About?

The title of the course is Career Awareness.  It is designed for all students to begin exploring a stated career.

Students will . . .

1.  Develop writing skills.  Many professional careers require some form of writing.  Develop effective writing skills.
2.  Students will write book, article, movie, song, and video-game reviews, since much of professional writing requires reviewing and evaluating.
3.  Maintain a blog.  Why?  A blog is a convenient place to keep your work.  It provides you with an opportunity to write and contribute intelligently to a topic, to discuss any topic of interest or importance from global warming to QE2 to QE3 to AIDS and so forth.  "So what?" you say.  "Who cares?" you say.  Well, immediately, you're the one who cares about a subject.  You know the topics that you're passionate about.  As you write articles regularly on your blog, people will begin to take you serious.  Again, "So what?" you say.  "Who cares?" you say.  A college admissions board will absolutely care.  A college admission's board will see dedication and commitment to a project.  College admission boards love that kind of thing: commitment to a project.  You want to get into the college of your choice?  Maintain a blog on a topic.  Upload relevant video and pictures.  Comment on them; critique them.  Begin to be a resource and a store of value.  People might pay to see what is on your site.
